Endowment
Colorado Academy uses endowment funds to help invest in human capital that enriches school values above and beyond new or improved facilities.

Endowment gifts have helped to fund an array of vital programs including:

  • Teaching Excellence—Endowment helps support faculty compensation and professional development, both of which promote teaching excellence and student achievement.
  • Financial Aid—Endowment helps fund financial aid, which is essential to increasing our community’s diversity and to make a CA education affordable to a wider range of families.
  • Technology—Even though technology has become intertwined with CA’s mission, investment requires constant attention. Endowment can help manage those costs, reducing pressures on tuition and our families.
Currently, CA’s endowment stands at just under $20 million. We are under-endowed compared to some of our peer schools and for what we wish to accomplish educationally in the future.

Endowment Gifts
Gifts and pledges to the CA endowment in the form of cash or appreciated securities have the most immediate impact.  However, gifts to endowment also can occur over a longer term through bequests in estates, gifts of real estate, and structured planned giving instruments.

Unrestricted and Restricted Endowment gifts
Unrestricted gifts in support of CA endowment place no limitations on the use of the income from the funds. Such income is used to meet the school’s most pressing needs, as determined by the Administration and Board of Trustees on an annual basis. Unrestricted gifts provide the greatest flexibility. Unrestricted funds of $25,000 or more can be named in honor of the donor, or someone of special importance to the donor, but the donor cannot designate where these funds are used.

Restricted gifts in support of CA endowment mandate that the income be used for a specific purpose, such as student financial aid, faculty support, or a particular academic or extracurricular program. Restricted funds of $50,000 or more can be named in honor of the donor or someone of special importance to the donor.

Establishing New Endowment Funds
A minimum of $250,000 is required to establish a named, endowed Chair of Distinguished Teaching fund that confers special recognition on outstanding Colorado Academy teachers.

A minimum of $100,000 is required to establish a named, endowed scholarship to provide an annual subsidy for future financial aid students to attend, and benefit from, CA.

A minimum gift of $50,000 is required to establish a named fund for faculty salaries, professional development, academics, athletics, technology, extracurricular programs, student awards and prizes, facilities, or for Horizons.

A minimum gift of $25,000 can establish an unrestricted named fund.  Unrestricted gifts provide the greatest flexibility to the school.  Unrestricted funds of $25,000 or more can be named in honor of the donor, or someone of special importance to the donor.  The income of these funds can be used to address operational needs that change from year to year.
