Summer Institutes
For summer 2008, we plan to host one institute:
Growing Teachers will be presented June 16-19, 2008.
Join a small group of independent school administrators at the foot of the Rocky Mountains for this outstanding, information-packed institute.

General Information

The Colorado Academy Summer Institutes are expressly for independent school administrators, teachers, and those who have oversight in the themed area. Presentations by nationally recognized experts are augmented by substantial materials and resources.  Registration includes all meals on the days of each institute; fees will be discounted for multiple attendees from a school; when more than one institute is offered, a discount is also given for attendees registering for more than one institute. Attendees make their own hotel reservations; Colorado Academy reserves rooms at a reduced conference rate at the Residence Inn by Marriott, within easy walking distance of Colorado Academy.  Van transportation between the hotel and CA is provided in inclement weather.

    Topics include:
  • Parent education—a total educational approach
  • Today’s parents—who are they?
  • Character education—at home and at school
  • Teaching parents about raising children
  • Training & working with volunteers

    Sculpting Curriculum
    Topics include:

  • Concept-based instructional design (teaching to the “big idea”)
  • Models for review and audit
  • Analysis of achievement tests to modify curriculum
  • Presenting curriculum to groups (parents), presenting the need for curriculum work to groups (faculty)
  • The parent-teacher conference as a curriculum essential
  • Examining models in student reporting

    Growing Teachers

    Topics include:
  • Working with groups of teachers (analyzing data, making decisions, facilitating discussion)
  • A workable professional development model
  • Professional development techniques
  • Development of teacher leadership
  • Growing a school culture from the inside out
  • Mentoring—establishing a mentoring program, training mentors, mentoring techniques
  • Professional evaluation—tricks of the trade
