Technology in the classroom
Colorado Academy teachers in all three divisions eagerly use technology to engage their students. As a result, students craft multifaceted, creative and rich presentations and research projects.  I am proud that CA is the leader in technology integration among independent schools in Colorado."
Jan Beattie, Director of Technology

Innovative technologies at work
Colorado Academy’s Technology Department has one of the state’s most innovative and comprehensive school programs. The department provides up-to-date equipment, training, and friendly, knowledgeable support to enable students, staff, and even parents to succeed in the digital age. Campuswide technology supports both Windows and Macintosh platforms, although all labs and libraries utilize  Windows XP/Vista operating systems.

Student computer access
CA’s four up-to-date main computer labs—one in the Lower School and one in the Middle School and two in the Raether building—provide students with excellent opportunities for hands-on learning. In addition, both the Lower School Library and the Raether Library have 20 computers for student and faculty use. There is a mobile wireless lab with 20 laptops for classroom and field use by the Upper School students. The Lower School boasts three 20-laptop wireless mobile labs for classroom use, multiple classroom sets of AlphaSmarts and a pilot writing program in the primary grades using mini-laptops. The photography department features a brand-new state-of-the-art digital photo lab to complement its traditional photo lab facilities.  Classroom computers abound, as well, and there is a specialty lab of computers especially suited for making videos in the Lower School.

Technology staff
The Technology Department employs four full-time staff members, a part-time technology administrative assistant and a part-time technology support specialist. The fulltime positions include the Director of Technology and MS Technology Coordinator, Network Administrator, US Technology Coordinator and LS Technology Coordinator. All of the coordinators teach classes in their respective divisions as well as assist CA students, faculty, and staff with their technology projects.

Technology teaching aids
All classroom teachers have laptop computers and projectors to assist them with presentations and productivity. Most teachers regularly use these tools to access the Internet, exchange papers with students via email or forums, post homework on a web page, or give relevant presentations. Eighty-five percent of classrooms in the lower school have Activboards (interactive whiteboards). Many Middle and Upper School teachers use Smart Boards and others are using interactive handheld response devices and wireless slates. An electronic gradebook, which interfaces with our student records system, is used in all divisions.
